“We are Going to Fight!” – The Fuel Hike Protest

As the government planed to raise fuel prices by about 33 percent to avoid a budget deficit due to expensive fuel subsidies, protesters including students, farmers, union members, political parties and non-government organizations, rallied across the country against the proposal. Wave of protest began and quickly spread throughout the nation.

The massive protests took place not only in Jakarta, but also in other cities across the country, including Semarang. Student protesters sang songs and burned tires during a protest against the raise of fuel price plan.

“We reject the fuel price increase! The Govt has has forgotten the fate of the people of Indonesia” said the leader of student protesters. “We can’t let this happen, We are going to fight!”

Flags of PRD, Partai Rakyat Demokratik (Democratic People Party) appears in a crowd of protester. The one of the most revolutionary and controversial party seems to be a symbol of resistance against the government.
